Good evening people.
If you haven't known, a year ago back in Aug. 2011 I had unemployment benefits for the first time. I searched for jobs for six months, then got hired by Dept. of Human Services. I've been working there for over sixth months, and it's an alright job. It mostly involves paperwork and other office stuff, much more than my previous office jobs (where I did a wider variety of stuff). Basically medical assistance applications come in, completed by clients, and I'm one of several workers who review them, request for any supporting documents from the clients to prove their eligibility, determine if they're eligible in any assistance programs, then enter the info into the state's online system. (I get to access all kinds of info on people who live in Hawaii.
) There's also other miscellaneous tasks I do, or will be doing when my training ends.
Aside from this "daily grind"
, I tried getting more kinds fun out of my island in my free time.
So even though work isn't that interesting, after work and on days off I find interesting community events around the island to photograph, like festivals, performances, and various spectator events. Since March or so I've attended about 20 public events, most of which the average person here never even knew about.
That's because lately I've started checking the community events page in this free little newspaper that I've been getting at my work place, which also led me to checking out other "community calendars" online. People here complain that "there's nothing to do on Kauai" aside from common stuff people do like outdoor sports, movies, and bars, so I like how I'm proving (to myself at least) that if you just look carefully, you can find some interesting stuff to do on certain days. Also, photographing these events has been valuable training in helping me improve my photography skills, even if most of my photos end up only just mediocre-looking.
